Tucker Carlson unbothered by recent firing, set to take the conservative world by storm with newfound freedom

Former FOX News host Tucker Carlson is enjoying more time with his family since the network abruptly fired him this week, the Daily Wire reported. Reporters caught up with Carlson shortly before he headed out to dinner with his wife, Susan, where he said his only "future plans" were "appetizers plus entree."

The network shocked the media world Monday when it announced its most successful on-air personality would not be returning. Carlson hosted his eponymous "Tucker Carlson Tonight" primetime program on FOX News for seven years before getting the ax this week.

If there was an inciting incident, the network kept quiet about it. "FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways," a statement from the network said Monday.

"We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor." The show will continue using "rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named," the network said.

In the meantime, Carlson, 53, seems to be taking it all in stride. "I haven’t eaten dinner with my wife on a weeknight in seven years," Carlson told reporters in Florida Tuesday.

"Retirement is going great so far!" he added. The Carlsons, who were high school sweethearts, have been married for more than 30 years, People reported.

He and Susan share their grown children, Lillie, Buckley, Hopie, and Dorothy. The younger Carlsons are also private about their lives and livelihoods, but Buckley works in Washington, D.C., for Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN).

The good-natured host has kept many of the details of his private life close to the vest. However, he did comment in a 2022 interview about the importance of communication in a happy marriage.

"It's never easy because men and women fundamentally don't understand each other; that's the whole joy in it," Tucker Carlson said. "That's why marriage makes you grow, because you don't really understand the other person, so you have to try every day to decipher what that person is saying."

Carlson is a family-oriented man, once saying there is "nothing more valuable in life" than being a father. "You will die in the end, and their comfort in your final hours will be worth more than any effort you make on their behalf."

The unemployed host had more wisdom of life to share when he took to Twitter Wednesday for the first time since his ouster, USA Today reported. "One of the first things you realize, when you step outside the noise for a few days, is how many genuinely nice people there are in this country and decent people who really care about what's true," Carlson said.

He went on to remark that "the other thing you notice when you take a little time off is how unbelievably stupid most of the debates you see on television are," he noted. "They're completely irrelevant."

"They mean nothing. In five years, we won't even remember that we had them. Trust me, as someone who's participated."

Carlson was such an essential part of FOX News that it's hard to imagine what will become of the network without him. However, Carlson will no doubt land on his feet, and his audience will likely follow him wherever he ends up.
