‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ notches impressive ratings among self-described Dems

Though Fox News host Tucker Carlson routinely draws the ire and boycott ambitions of the far-left, he received some surprising ratings news covering the preceding week, particularly when it comes to the political affiliation of a noteworthy portion of his show’s viewership.

As Deadline reports, Tucker Carlson Tonight took the top spot in the coveted 25-54 age demographic and was the most-watched cable news program among Democrats in that all-important group – much to the certain chagrin of competitor programs as liberal-leaning competitor networks such as MSNBC and CNN.

According to the data described by the outlet, Carlson snagged over 100,000 self-identified Democrat viewers between the ages of 25 and 54, besting MSNBC offering The Rachel Maddow Show and Fox News’ own The Five, both of which tied for runner-up by each pulling 88,000 Democrats in the aforementioned demographic.

Behind those programs was Sean Hannity’s nightly Fox News broadcast, which attracted 81,000 Democrat viewers in the age category, and Greg Gutfeld’s comedy-based program on the same network, which scored 73,000.

As The Hill noted, Fox News was a major ratings winner not just when it comes to young Democrats but also across all cable news contenders for the entire month of May.

The network had an average of 1.4 million total-day viewers over the course of May, which represents a significant lead over MSNBC, which averaged 634,000, and CNN, which drew a paltry 500,000.

The prime time figures were even more impressive for Fox News in May, with the network averaging in excess of 2.2 million viewers every night last month, stacked against MSNBC’s average of 1 million and CNN’s 660,000.

At a loss to explain Carlson’s apparent appeal among his ideological opponents, Politico’s Jack Shafer earlier this year hypothesized that while some of those viewers are “hate-watching” the host or “dialing up Hannity for a laugh,” others simply enjoy the “zesty,” and “sensationalist” stories he believes the network covers more than its rivals do.

Perhaps there’s an even simpler explanation, namely, that networks such as CNN and MSNBC have so thoroughly discredited themselves via their coverage of everything from the Trump-Russia collusion hoax to the COVID-19 pandemic that Carlson’s brand of hard-hitting, often jaw-dropping journalistic investigation has become must-see tv for anyone interested in something beyond the force-fed progressive storyline du jour.

A bit clunky to say the least but our skill set and experience won the day. Poor ref with no regard to offside and he bottled it on the sin bin, red card all day long if it had been on sky
