Many argue that when it comes to the American military, peace through strength is a solid strategy. If that’s so, anything that weakens the armed forces is a mistake — but Fox News’ Tucker Carlson just incurred the wrath of the federal government for pointing that out on his show this week.
Carlson was just directly targeted by President Biden’s Pentagon after he argued that new measures to feminized the aspects of the U.S. military uniform are making a “mockery” of the institution, the Washington Examiner reported.
Carlson was speaking on his Tuesday night program about the new female-friendly military President Joe Biden was pushing. “So, we’ve got new hairstyles and maternity flight suits,” Carlson said. “Pregnant women are going to fight our wars. It’s a mockery of the U.S. military.”
The host was drawing a comparison between a Chinese military initiative and the agenda transforming the American military. “While China’s military becomes more masculine as it’s assembled the world’s largest navy, our military needs to become, as Joe Biden says, more feminine, whatever feminine means anymore since men and women no longer exist,” Carlson said.
Carlson blamed the Department of Defense for kowtowing to the woke progressives. “The bottom line is it’s out of control, and the Pentagon is going along with this,” Carlson said.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby fired back that they wouldn’t be taking “personnel advice from a talk show host or the Chinese military.” Kirby also advanced the progressives’ idea that an institution is made better through diversity.
“We are better and more effective, not only when we represent the American people, all the American people, but also when we have the morals to include other perspectives and ideas,” Kirby said. “A major and specific contributor to that advantage are the women who serve, civilian and military alike.”
Women and men are built differently and, for that reason, have different skills and advantages to offer. Rather than hiring based on merit, the focus recently has about checking the right boxes employees, which sounds fair but weakens any institution. While it’s true that including women in the military has its benefits, purposely cramming someone into a role based on gender doesn’t bode well for an institution — whether that’s doing so for men or women.
