Close on the heels of his shock firing from Fox News, Tucker Carlson took to social media on Wednesday in a video in which he lamented the state of American political discourse but also offered his legions of fans that, in the end, “true things prevail,” according to the Daily Mail.
Having reportedly been “blindsided” by the abrupt nature of his dismissal from Fox News, Carlson began his Twitter video message by musing about “things you notice when you take a little time off.”
As CBS News noted, one such thing is “how unbelievably stupid most of the debates you see on television are,” and another is the fact that “big topics...get virtually no discussion at all.”
Carlson, 53, went on, saying, “Both political parties and their donors have reached consensus on what benefits them, and they actively collude to shut down any conversation about it.” Suddenly, the United States looks very much like a one-party state.”
“That's a depressing realization,” Carlson observed, “but it's not permanent.”
Positing that the current state of play simply cannot endure, Carlson said, “Our current orthodoxies won't last. They're brain-dead. Nobody actually believes them” and added, “This moment is too inherently ridiculous to continue, and so it won't.”
“The people in charge notice, that's why they're hysterical and aggressive. They're afraid. They've given up persuasion, they're resorting to force,” the primetime stalwart continued, before turning to a distinctly optimistic tone.
Pointing to what he believes needs to transpire more regularly in America, Carlson said, “When honest people say what's true, calmly and without embarrassment, they become powerful.”
Simultaneously, Carlson suggested, “the liars who have been trying to silence them shrink. And they become weaker. That's the iron law of the universe. True things prevail.”
Perhaps hinting toward his future return to the arena, Carlson posed the rhetorical question, “Where can you still find Americans saying true things?”
“There aren't many places left, but there are some, and that's enough,” the popular host assured his fans, also saying encouragingly, “See you soon.”
A strong indication of Carlson's massive popularity was the fact that his message garnered more than 57 million views in less than 24 hours after its posting, as The Hill noted, far outstripping the number of users who clicked on President Joe Biden's campaign launch video.
Former Fox News personality Bill O'Reilly opined after Carlson's firing that the network where he used to ply his trade “is a far different place than it was when I spent 20 years there. And by this time next year, it will be a far different place again” and not one he believes will benefit Republican messaging efforts.
Carlson, for his part, is already entertaining what are surely very lucrative offers from Fox News competitors, including One America News Network and BlazeTV, as CBS News noted, but whether he will sign on with one of those enterprises or perhaps take his talents to the streaming world or elsewhere, only time will tell.
