Trump urges GOP to oust Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over border failures

Among the strongest critics of the Biden administration’s decision to lift Title 42 pandemic mitigation policies which facilitated rapid expulsions of illegal immigrants, is former President Donald Trump, who this week called on Republicans to oust Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his repeated failures when it comes to the southern border, as Breitbart reports.

Trump’s remarks came during a Saturday rally in Selma, North Carolina, where he did not hold back when discussing what he believes are the potentially catastrophic ramifications of Biden’s ongoing neglect of his responsibility to stem the tide of illegal immigration.

“With last week’s announcement that the Biden administration will rescind the crucial Title 42 protections I put into place to quickly remove illegal aliens, Biden is willfully opening the floodgates to a tidal wave of illegal immigration the likes of which the world has never seen before,” Trump declared.

The end of Title 42 rules, which is slated for late May, combined with a host of other tactics employed by the Biden administration since early last year to undo Trump-era immigration policies, led the former president to call specifically for Mayorkas’ removal from office.

“After we win this November, Republicans should immediately vote to remove Biden’s Secretary of Homeland Security from office for his blatant acts of sabotage against the laws of the United States. And then, we should continue to work hard until the borders are sealed,” Trump opined.

In addition to calling for GOP action when it comes to Mayorkas, Trump also spoke directly to potential new arrivals, suggesting that they may not find the road to establishing a permanent presence in the United States to be as easy as they thought, as the Daily Mail noted.

“To every would-be illegal alien currently thinking of rushing America’s borders because of Joe Biden’s actions, hear these words: if you enter America illegally, you can rest assured that when Republicans retake power, we will hire thousands of new ICE agents to reverse this injustice, we will find you, we will detain you, we will deport you, and you will never be allowed to enter our country ever again,” Trump vowed.

The former president’s words of warning about what may be on the verge of happening in the coming months are well-taken, as Charlie Hurt of the Washington Times noted last week that Border Patrol agents are “expecting a surge at the border this summer that could top 250,000 illegals each month, which would obviously be an historic invasion at the border.”

Though a number of Democrats have recently joined forces with Republicans to express their opposition to the plan to lift Title 42 rules next month, it remains to be seen whether the president, Mayorkas, or anyone else in the current administration will be held to account for the open borders approach that has made a mockery of the rule of law and threatens to continue steamrolling already-overwhelmed border communities in the very near future.
