The country was shocked on Monday to learn that the FBI conducted a raid at former President Donald Trump’s Florida estate, but in the days that have followed, he has achieved an astounding level of fundraising success some might have declared unthinkable.
The support the former commander-in-chief has elicited in the aftermath of the invasive and egregious search of Mar-a-Lago was announced in a post by first son Eric Trump on his father’s Truth Social platform that was also posted to Twitter.
“Breaking: DonaldJTrump.com is shattering all fundraising records and I’m told has raised more money in the past 24 hours than ever before in recent history!” wrote the younger Trump, who added, “the American people are pissed!”
The former President had spoken directly to his supporters in a statement made after the raid, writing on Truth Social, “Nothing like his has ever happened to a President of the United States before. After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate.”
“Such an assault could only take place in broker, Third-World Countries,” Trump added. “Sadly, America has now become one of those Countries, corrupt at a level not seen before.”
It is no surprise that Trump’s searing reaction to what occurred on Monday lit a fire under his base to up their campaign contributions, according to a number of political strategists, as the New York Post, notes.
GOP strategy consultant Gregg Keller told the outlet, “The White House is claiming to have not had advance notice the FBI were going to raid the home of the preceding President of the United States?! Please. This is so sure to boost Trump and his chances, you wonder if it’s intentional.”
Republican insider Chuck Flint suggested that the raid would galvanize the party to action in that it “solidifies a pattern of government agencies being used by the Left to target political opponents. Whether it’s the IRS auditing conservative organizations or DOJ relying on a Democrat research dossier as a pretext to launch an investigation of Trump in 2016, these actions stoke GOP resentment.”
With politicians close to Trump – such as Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) – suggesting that the FBI’s search of his residence will almost certainly solidify his resolve to mount another presidential campaign in 2024, the decision to raid the property may end up being the biggest backfire in law enforcement history, and Democrats will rue the day it was made.
