Former President Donald Trump has not yet announced whether he’ll run for president again. However, a strategic pair-up with another prominent Republican could easily usher in a second term for him in 2024.
Trump said he would “certainly” consider replacing former Vice President Mike Pence with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to the ticket if he ran again in 2024, the Daily Caller reported. The former president made his statements to Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo Thursday.
“Well, he’s a friend of mine. I endorsed Ron. And after I endorsed him, he took off like a rocket ship,” Trump said of the GOP executive. “He’s done a great job as governor.”
“A lot of people … love that ticket,” Trump asserted. “Certainly Ron would be considered, he’s a great guy.” Trump has been reluctant to make any official announcement for his 2024 plans, but many have speculated that he will run again in 2024.
DeSantis would be a good choice to bolster his chances. The governor became a standout conservative during his handling of the coronavirus pandemic in Florida and his state is booming.
Despite other states struggling with continued lockdowns and economic despair, DeSantis mostly kept Florida open for business. “Everyone told me I was wrong,” he said at a fundraiser last month, CNN reported. “I faced continued pressure from radical Democrats and the liberal media, but I refused to back down. It’s clear: Florida got it right.”
Other popular proposals include an anti-riot bill that would increase penalties for crimes committed in the course of civil unrest, Fox News reported. Opponents of the bill charge racism and silencing protests against racial injustice, but the people of Florida understand the importance of such legislation to curb the riots and destruction that have plagued major cities throughout the U.S.
Trump was a popular president, but he had an uphill climb throughout his presidency with so much media opposition. It’s difficult to imagine that he could overcome all that a second time, but a running mate like DeSantis would be a smart choice to rally the conservative base.
