Former President Donald Trump said during a Fox News interview on Thursday that he has not made a decision yet about running for president in 2024, but will make an announcement in “the not too distant future.”
“I think you’ll be very happy,” Trump told host Greg Gutfeld. “I’ll make a decision in the not too distant future, but I love our country.”
The news appeared to contradict Trump’s past report that he had already made up his mind. In addition, several people close to Trump have publicly stated they believe he will run in 2024.
“He’s proven he can take the heat. We’re at a moment now where you’ve got to have someone who’s willing to fight, willing to stand up to all the abuses,” Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan said last week, according to the Daily Caller.
It is unclear when Trump will make an announcement regarding a 2024 White House run. He previously suggested he would wait until after the 2022 midterm elections, allowing time to focus on supporting Republicans to regain power in the House and Senate.
While the nation awaits Trump’s decision, he remains busy with a variety of activities, including two large upcoming rallies. One will be in Georgia, a state where much controversy arose following the 2020 election.
The other, set for Iowa, is located in the state traditionally known for holding the first Republican primary vote for president. Both venues hint toward a run, but no word yet from Trump as he continues to fuel the speculation.
