Former President Donald Trump last week took a sledgehammer to the Democrats’ prevailing storyline around the Jan. 6 unrest at the U.S. Capitol, declaring that the unfortunate events of that day could have been prevented if House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) had not declined help from “soldiers and/or National Guard,” as Breitbart reports.
Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump noted that he fully anticipated that a large crowd would assemble that day in D.C., given that there were “people listening to the speeches, a lot of different people, and they were also making speeches the night before” in protest of the potential certification of the 2020 election results in favor of Joe Biden.
The former president noted that “there was a lot of love there…and a lot of friendship, and people that love our country,” painting a drastically different picture than that of the mob of insurrectionists Democrats have been attempting to portray for a full year.
Trump continued, explaining that because he suspected that such a large crowd would gather to express their frustration about voting irregularities many believed to have marred the legitimacy of the election outcome, he “wanted soldiers and/or National Guard” on hand to keep things calm.
However, according to Trump, Pelosi quashed the idea of securing assistance from troops, “and if she didn’t turn it down, you would not have had any problem. It would have just been absolutely a lovely day.”
The former commander in chief is not the only one pointing the finger at Pelosi for the chaos that ultimately unfolded last January, with a group of Republican lawmakers, including Reps. Jim Jordan (OH), Jim Banks (IN), Rodney Davis (IL), and Elise Stefanik (NY) joining forces to claim that the Democrat-led House committee charged with probing the protest is serving as a “cover-up” for the speaker’s culpability.
Davis recently sent a memo to his GOP colleagues stating that “there are important facts that cannot be ignored about what occurred before, during, and after that day,” and that while the committee is “no closer to finding out what led to the catastrophic security failure,” it is determined “to attack President Trump and punish anyone associated with him,” according to Fox News.
In Stefanik’s estimation, the House panel has already effectively declared Pelosi blameless, and she believes that the “American people deserve to know that the ONLY office that is off-limits to this investigation is the Speaker’s office,” suggesting that the California Democrat may indeed have something to hide concerning her own acts and omissions on that dreadful day.
Though the left seems hell-bent on playing their false insurrection narrative for all its worth for as long as possible, perhaps once the widely-predicted red wave sweeps the country this November, Republican leaders will finally get to the bottom of what really happened in Washington last January.
