Trump insiders drop hints as to Trump's thinking on a VP pick: Report

As the battle for the 2024 GOP nomination intensifies, former President Donald Trump, at some point, will select his vice presidential running mate, and it'll likely be some of the biggest political news of the year.

According to the Daily Caller, Trump camp insiders reportedly dropped several clues as to who Trump might select for the hottest political ticket in town. There are certain qualities, the sources reportedly said, for which the former president is searching.

The Daily Caller noted that the qualities include being "ideologically aligned" with him, having "charisma," and being "loyal."

A Republican consultant with sources in the Trump campaign told the outlet, "We do know one thing about Trump, is that he puts a lot of weight on how well you present yourself. That really matters to him, so I suspect that will matter for his VP choice."

In other words, the person he selects will be perfect for television, and of course, social media videos and the like.

Another source close to Trump reportedly said, "Loyalty. That’s the necessary characteristic of anyone who wants to be VP. President Trump and the movement were dragged down by disloyalty in the White House."

So far, nobody that might be on Trump's shortlist has publicly expressed interest in the job, however, sources also said that there has been plenty of "auditioning" behind the scenes.

Given the diversity-first world of politics in which we live, and from a strategy perspective on Trump's side, some close to his campaign believe he will ultimately select a female running mate.

"I think he would very much be open to a female… it depends. I don’t believe in diversity for the sake of diversity when it comes to elections and political figures, but I think there are people out there that are female that would be good fits for him," the source reportedly said.

An official supporting Trump's campaign reportedly said, "I think he would very much be open to a female… it depends. I don’t believe in diversity for the sake of diversity when it comes to elections and political figures, but I think there are people out there that are female that would be good fits for him."

From Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders to former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, there is a fairly long list of female veep candidates who would probably check off all the boxes Trump needs checked off.

A spokesperson for Lake, however, suggested Lake wouldn't take the job, but that's usually what's said by most potential candidates early on. Anything can change.

"Kari Lake is committed to fighting for the people of Arizona, championing America First policies, and doing everything in her power to ensure that President Trump is elected in 2024," the spokesperson said.

Only time will tell who Trump selects as his 2024 running mate. Whoever it is, they'd better be ready for one heck of a fight.
