Trump floats ‘decoupling’ from Chinese economy

President Trump made a shocking announcement on Sunday, revealing that he is considering stepping up his pressure on China by “decoupling” the US’s economy from the communist nation’s.

Trump, who once touted his good relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping, has come out with guns blazing against China after the Asian powerhouse remorselessly mishandled the coronavirus crisis and continues to abuse the human rights of its own citizens.

Trump told Fox News in an interview airing on Sunday that ” “we don’t have to” do business with the manufacturing giant, though the US economy is deeply intertwined with China’s.

Trump has been escalating pressure on China for months, even dismissing long-held plans for a second major trade deal with China. Trump explained, that “decoupling” the two nation’s economies is “something that if they don’t treat us right I would certainly, I would certainly do that.”

This isn’t the first time that Trump has brought up severing ties with one of the world’s most powerful economies. Trump brought up the concept of “decoupling” in June, tweeting at the time “the U.S. certainly does maintain a policy option, under various conditions, of a complete decoupling from China.”

Trump’s comment came in response to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer’s June testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee that he didn’t believe that severing the relationship is a viable policy option.

Decoupling from the Chinese economy would force a major supply chain and economic realignment, which could be costly in the short term. However, China’s blatant misconduct in recent months appears to have forced the conversation.

  1. It’s the only conscionable thing to do. If we can do it, and I believe President Trump when he says there is a way, then we absolutely should. China has never hid the fact, and in fact has been very open and vocal about it, that they desire to cripple America, to do it harm. We never should have gotten entangled with them in the first place.

  2. Trump is correct in divorcing ourselves from the communist Chinese. America became the nation we are by
being the number one manufacturing nation in the world. Democrats and Rino Republicans handed that all over
to China for cheaper labor and gave away our control of our destiny. Mr. Trump is the first president that I can
remember who is determined to make America first. We were first after WWII and then gave it all away building
our enemies up to compete with us and never started out looking our for the U.S.A. again. If we can keep the democrats off Mr. Trumps back long enough maybe he can build up back to what we were before the war.

  3. Yes! I don’t think we should have any financial dealings with the chinese snakes! I would stand with Trump even if it meant we would pay more in the short term. Bring all our manufacturing jobs back to the United States.

    1. AMEN ..BUY USA. EVEN IF IT COST A LITTLE MORE .. I AM ONLY ONE PERSON.BUT YOU ARE 2 AND SOMEONE ELSE IS 3 ON AND ON. AND WE CAN BEAT CHINA AT THEIR GAME.BRING BACK AMERICAN COMPANIES TO
THE USA GOD BLESS TRUMP ..GET OUT AND VOTE AND PRAY WE HAVE HIM FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS.

  4. We can manage to take over the manufacturing of things we need and want to share by selling to the right buyers overseas ($$$) and that will also make us safer as a nation. We also have some very good countries that could continue to be fair traders with us, like Taiwan and Japan and some European countries. China has to let go of the communist program and that could take a few hundred years…..so nothing lost if we drop them now. Also, China is spoiling for a war…..with someone….anyone getting in their so to speak private waters or air space. It will be easier to deal with them if we are not a big time trading partner… Cut the apron strings sir… Isn’t this what MAGA is all about??

  5. Yes I agree we should not have any ties with China- they have no respect for us.
We need to be independent of them.
Donald Trump is the best for our country. If only the democrats would realize how much he is for our country and it’s safety.

  6. Absolutely, I agree with everything mentioned above; It’s about time.1st President to stand up to this bully.

  7. Yes, they are already infiltrated into our politics, just look at the things the Democrat party are pushing. They want us to be a part of China, hell, they will have China come in a take over this country!

  8. I would like to go to the store to buy clothes that are made in the USA rather than China. Today, it’s almost impossible to do so. I made a comment to WalMart and was told there were clothes in my size not made in China. They were as ugly as sin. Our people need jobs and there’s absolutely no reason to give those jobs to China, Mexico, or any other nation. Our people can make pretty clothes if given a chance. Keep our manufacturing jobs here at home!

  9. I would like to go to the store to buy clothes that are made in the USA rather than China. Our people need jobs and can make beautiful clothes. We don’t need to buy them from another country. Today, I cannot find clothes that look decent in our stores that are made here at home, yet we have people going hungry who could have a job manufacturing items. That’s just wrong!
