Former President Donald Trump blasted Democrats on Saturday during his Ohio rally, claiming they “used COVID” to change the 2020 presidential election’s outcome.
“They used COVID in order to cheat. They used COVID in order to rig the election and in order to steal the election. They used COVID,” Trump said, according to the Washington Examiner. “That’s as simple as it gets.”
The former president called the changed election rules due to the coronavirus “treacherous,” allowing widespread voter fraud that changed the results of the election.
Trump also praised those investigating election fraud. “”I hear now that Wisconsin is looking very, very seriously [into the allegations of voter fraud], and I respect Wisconsin so much.”
He added, “It’s a great state. They’re looking very seriously. Pennsylvania is really starting to take this very seriously.”
The comments came following a statement by Trump last week slamming Republican state senators in Michigan for not pursuing a forensic audit of 2020 election ballots.
During the rally, Trump asked, “Michigan is not [taking the allegations of voter fraud seriously]. You can’t get those Republicans. Some are great, by the way, but Michigan is not doing the job. … How do you win Ohio by so much, record numbers, and lose Michigan?”
The rally offer Trump an opportunity to sound off on voter fraud, but his words may not change the decisions states are making to investigate. Most states are now more focused on election laws and upcoming campaigns for the 2022 midterm elections.
