The Democratic party has unapologetically aligned with its radical leftist base. At least one Democrat no longer wants to be affiliated with its agenda.
Shortly after both of Georgia’s Senate seats went to radical Democrats, former Georgia State Rep. Vernon Jones announced that he’s quitting the Democrat party and “coming home” to the GOP, according to The Dan Bongino Show. Jones made his announcement at Wednesday’s “Save America March” in Washington, D.C.
“I’m ready to go home,” Jones said. “I’m ready to go home to the party of Lincoln. I’m ready to go home to the party of Frederick Douglas. I’m ready to go home to the party of South Carolina Senator Tim Scott. Today, I’m coming home. I’m coming home to the Grand Old Party. I’m officially joining the Republican Party,” Jones announced as the crowd erupted into cheers.
Last year, Jones made waves after resigning from office to campaign for President Donald Trump, Fox News reported. He was still a Democrat at the time and said he was not interested in switching parties despite becoming disillusioned with the “left-wing mob” takeover. He also endured scorn for being a black man and supporting Trump.
In August, Jones spoke as a lifelong Democrat at the Republican National Committee. “The Democratic Party does not want Black people to leave the mental plantation they’ve had us on for decades,” he said. “But I have news for them: We are free people with free minds.” In that same speech, Jones praised the president and what he’d done for the black community, including supporting historically black academic institutions and reforming criminal justice.
He and other prominent black Republicans spoke at the convention on behalf of the president. Within the following day, the racial slur “Uncle Tom” was trending on Twitter, with some using it specifically against Jones, the Daily Wire reported.
The Democratic party is severe on anyone from the black or other minority communities who dare support the Republican party. They instead champion radicals like newly-elected Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), who sow racial division, anger and envy.
Jones should be lauded for his principled objection and defection from the Democratic party. While their old message was one of unity, equality, and color-blindness, the new Democratic agenda paints “whiteness” as the enemy and focuses everything through the lens of race. The country cannot continue without warriors like Jones who are willing to take the slings and arrows to join the party that truly respects individuals rather than pitting groups against one another.
