Trump administration denies Minnesota appeal for disaster relief funds after riots

Democrat governors and mayors have allowed violence and riots to run rampant in their cities for weeks in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd.

In Minneapolis, ground zero for the entire mess, rioters destroyed 1,500 buildings which resulted in over $500 million in damages. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) asked the Trump administration for funds to begin the rebuilding process, but Donald Trump said “no.”

Walz requested that Trump declare Minnesota a “major disaster” area in order to access $16 million worth of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) dollars.

Trump rejected the request after FEMA declared that a “thorough review” of the matter determined that “the impact to public infrastructure is within the capabilities of the local and state governments to recover from.”

Remember, Donald Trump offered to involve the military in order to quell the violence in the twin cities area, but his attempts to prevent the damage were rebuffed.

After the Trump administration opted to require Minnesota leaders to take responsibility for the damage they allowed, the whining began. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey complained that “with local government budgets already stretched thin by the pandemic, the need for compassion and support from the federal level could not be more critical.”

“This decision is another sad reminder that Americans cannot look to this president’s administration for support, even in our darkest hours,” St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter huffed.

At least one Minnesota politician agreed with Trump’s decision, though. Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) said that “If the federal government is expected to assist in the clean-up of these unfortunate weeks, it has an obligation to every American — prior to the release of funding — to fully understand the events which allowed for this level of destruction to occur and ensure it never happens again.”

Of course, Minnesota has no intention of preventing such violence and riots in the future. In fact, Democrat leaders of the state tacitly encouraged violent protesting and have pledged to dismantle police forces in Minneapolis altogether.

Unfortunately for the good people of Minnesota, Democrat leaders cannot be allowed to rely on the safety net of the federal government any longer, and Donald Trump’s decision — though harsh — is a step in the right direction of holding destructive Democrat leaders accountable for their actions.

Democrat governors and mayors have allowed violence and riots to run rampant in their cities for weeks, so there is no good reason for taxpayers to support clean up and rebuilding. If they play the game, they need to pay for it.

Absolutely agree with President Trump’s decision to not release FEMA funds to these crooked governments. They ALLOWED AND ENCOURAGED rioting and destruction. Now fix it! And hopefully the citizens will fix it by voting everyone of them out ASAP!

Yes I agree and support Trumps action on this. When the governor and mayor cannot control a riot and destruction of property and help is offered witch they turn down then it’s on them to clean up their own mess. These people need to learn to accept help when offered even if they don’t like who has offered it. Hope they have fun rebuilding what they so willingly let be destroyed. Maybe next time when help is offered they will accept.

They should have let the police properly handle the riots the first day. Yes there would have been a few cracked heads but the rioting the their city as well as other cities would have been very small compared to actual damage.

The people who encouraged the destruction of their cities can pay for their own messes. That goes for EVERY city and state. Law abiding citizens must not be forced to pay for their actions to destroy and loot.

The Minneapolis administration condoned & (encouraged?) Lawlessness to make Trump look responsible, & now they’re trying to make him look responsible for the mess & necessary remediation. They created or
at least allowed it – up to them to fix it! My opinion whether they were Democrats or Republicans!

First i wish to thank President Trump for telling democrats to clean up the mess they helped cause with their inaction’s. And would not want my tax monies going to these gutter snipes to keep bailing them out of the problems of their own making. Let them figure out how to pay for their own mistakes. It is not the job of the American taxpayers to pay for a liberal education in progress.

The governor wouldn’t stop and let it go on. She lost control of her city. You caused it and we’re not giveing you a dime. Next time do your job right and if you can’t get out.

I certainly do agree with Pres. Trump. My beloved Mpls was destroyed and the politicians encouraged
it. All of these deadbeat Democratic leaders need to pay the consequences for their actions. We the
taxpayers do not to throw our hard earned money away on these evil acts. How many businesses did
they destroy and never will be able to come back after all their hard work. Absolutely not we do not
pay for their stupidity. Notice to the people: Voting time is near – get a clue, wakeup!

I absolutely agree with President Trump’s decision. I am tired of my tax dollars paying for their wasteful, Unnecessary, expense. They didn’t even try to stop the riots, they even seem to encourage them. They are defunding the police they want

I do not feel that the cost of fixing what they allowed to take place should not be given to them. I do not feel vandalism is any reason to dole out government money. Let the people who caused the problem be responsible for fixing it.

Thank God for President Trump who has the strength to stand up and make courageous decisions. Why should the American taxpayer pay for riots that could have and should have been prevented? Perhaps the mayor should think about this next time.

Bonnie Lawley (@guest_1021490)

Yes, I totally agree with President Trump. All the violence should have been stopped when it started. If they couldn’t stop it, they should have excepted the President’s offer to send in the National Guard. Why take tax payer’s money an build it back so they can burn it down again. They need to use their own money to rebuild. Maybe then they may think about protecting their town if they have to pay for it to be rebuilt. Stand your ground, Mr President

The stupidity of the Democrats has finally landed right in their lap! This is funny because President Trump warned that! Let them deal with what they’ve created! A bunch of lawless nuts wrecking havoc in absolutely everything they touch or see! MORONS EXTRAORDINAIRE!

This is wonderful and will make a statement to all democratic leaders that if they destructively make their bed they will lye in it. The democratic states have become a abomination to this country and Trump has no sympathy for these governors and mayors because they were the cause of all the destruction of their states. They have gone against there oath to uphold the laws of the land and gave it to hooligans to take over there states. The President should be putting the governors and mayors in jail for what they let happen and I would vote that in if the people could vote on it. These leaders of the states will be condemned by GOD for their action soon enough and it couldn’t be soon enough for me.
