With just 70 days to go until election day, Joe Biden just got the crushing news that he’s losing independent voters in a big way.
According to a new CBS News/YouGov America poll released last week, 47 percent of Independent voters said they would vote for Trump if the election was held today.
Just 37 percent of respondents said they would vote for Biden under the same circumstances. Another 5 percent said they are still undecided.
These poll findings are significant since 88 percent of the respondents said they will “definitely” vote when the time comes, and another 8 percent said they “probably” will turn out in November.
Democrats have no choice but to vote for Biden, but their enthusiasm is low, giving independent voters a significant amount of sway in this election.
This poll isn’t an anomaly either. Trump’s lead among independents has grown over the summer. A CNBC/Change poll conducted in May found that Trump held a nine-point advantage over Biden at the time.
If Trump already holds a ten-point lead in this demographic with less than three months until election day, I can only imagine the panic this poll has caused within the Biden campaign.
Though Biden still holds a strong advantage over Trump in many national polls, the gap is slowly closing — not a good sign with just weeks until election day.
