Rapper Tory Lanez found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion

A jury has just found rapper Tory Lanez guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, the Associated Press reports

This stems from an incident that occurred back in 2020 outside of a party that was held at the Los Angeles, California, home of Kylie Jenner.

CNN reports:

In her testimony during the trial, Megan said things were tense in the car between her, Lanez, and her former friend and assistant, Kelsey Harris, Billboard Magazine reports. The artist testified Lanez wanted her to come clean with Harris about the fact that the two of them had been intimate. But Billboard reports Megan was uncomfortable doing so because she knew Harris had a crush on the Canadian singer and rapper.

Things, according to Megan, then escalated when she exited the vehicle.

“I started walking away and I hear Tory yell, ‘Dance, b****.' I froze. I just felt shock. I felt hurt. I looked down at my feet and I see all of this blood," Megan testified.

Apparently, Megan had been shot. Bullet fragments would later be found in her feet.

Following the incident, Lanez, a 30-year-old Canadian whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was charged with multiples felonies, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Lanez denied the allegations and pled "not guilty."

The jury, however, after seven hours of deliberation, found Lanez to be guilty of all three charges. The jury additionally found that there were aggravating factors in the shooting.

“The jury got it right. I am thankful there is justice for Meg," said Alex Spiro, one of Megan Thee Stallion’s attornies.

Next up will be the sentencing hearing for Lanez, at which the duration of the prison sentence will be determined. Reports indicate that the maximum prison sentence that Lanez could receive is 22 years and eight months.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place on Jan. 25, 2023.

Meanwhile, Lanez will remain in jail.

The Associated Press reports:

Lanez, who was put in handcuffs and led to jail while wearing a powder pink coat with matching pants, showed no visible reaction as the verdict was read. But, moments later, after the jury was escorted out, his father, Sonstar Peterson, leapt up and shouted "This wicked system stands judged before God almighty!" as deputies closed in on him. With considerable effort, deputies wrestled him from the courtroom, where he shouted in the hallway.
