Top Biden official announces retirement day after unfavorable report

Another day in America, and another member of the Biden administration is on their way out.

According to the Daily Caller, Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman announced her retirement after working in the foreign policy realm for several decades.

However, the timing of her sudden retirement came just one day after a bombshell report exposed Sherman for allegedly being too weak on China, to include that perhaps Sherman was the reason the Biden administration let China slide after its balloon-based surveillance attack over American soil.

In a statement, Secretary of State Antony Blinken wrote:

“Wendy broke barriers as our first female Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs and our first female Deputy Secretary of State. Her remarkable career – which spans more than three decades, three Presidents, and five Secretaries of State – addressed some of the toughest foreign policy challenges of our time,”

The Daily Caller noted:

Sherman has taken the lead on multiple high-profile foreign policy issues, having served as the lead negotiator of the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) during the Obama administration and leading the Biden administration’s China policy.

"Wendy Sherman retiring as deputy secretary of state. A major proponent of the Iran nuclear deal, and recently fought against penalties against China for Uyghur human rights abuses," one Twitter user wrote.

Sherman also served as President Bill Clinton's North Korea policy adviser, among many other prominent foreign policy roles.

A Reuters report this week suggested that there was inner-turmoil in her part of government over the way the Chinese spy balloon incident was handled.

As Secretary of State Antony Blinken's point-person on China policy, Sherman appears to be to blame for the government's lame response, or at least taking the blame.

Social media users reacted to the news, and at first glance, there were not many well-wishes in her retirement messages.

"Wendy Sherman also led China and Russia talks. Biden and Xi and Biden and Putin aren’t even talking. She’s been a total disaster. @ewong is irrelevant," Richard Grenell tweeted.

Hopefully, her replacement will be magnitudes of order tougher on China, especially as tensions thicken. But one wouldn't be advised to bet one's last dollar on that hope.
