Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) believes former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should be charged for her involvement in fabricating the Steele Dossier, Breitbart reported. Cotton lamented the two-tiered justice system compared to how President Donald Trump is being pursued.

Cotton was speaking to Maria Bartiromo on her Fox Business News program "Mornings with Maria" Thursday. She asked about Cotton's previous statements about the disparity in the way Democrats and Republicans were treated.

"Well, Maria, it's unprecedented in American history that the party in power would target a former President with criminal charges. Such a step should not be taken lightly," Cotton told the host.

"But Alvin Bragg's indictment of Donald Trump is a joke," Cotton continued, speaking about the Manhattan district attorney who charged Trump over an alleged hush money payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels. "First off, all the so-called crimes appear to be beyond the five-year statute of limitations," Cotton pointed out.

"Second, if you look at it as a matter of law, Alvin Bragg didn't even allege an underlying felony which is necessary. I guess everybody says it's a federal election crime, but the Federal Election Commission didn't even pursue it, much less Alvin Bragg's predecessor, the Department of Justice," the Arkansas Republican continued.

"Third, consider the evidence here for this so-called crime," Cotton continued. "You have a woman who has contradicted herself multiple times about these facts, and you have a man who wasn't just convicted of a felony, he was convicted of lying under oath, not exactly strong evidence in a court of law," he said of Daniels.

"And while you pointed out the two systems of justice, I would note that Hillary Clinton's campaign was fined over $100,000 for falsifying records for the Steele dossier. And where was that campaign based? It was in New York City, Maria," Cotton said.

"So, where are the criminal charges against Hillary Clinton and her campaign?" Cotton said. Bartiromo called it a "great point" and laid out the case against Clinton, who ran against Trump as the Democratic presidential candidate in 2016.

"So, she pays for the dossier. She comes up with all these lies against Trump. Isn't that election interference right there? It was that campaign money," Bartiromo said. The Steele Dossier was used to launch the phony Russia collusion narrative despite its origin as campaign opposition research.

"Yes, but surprisingly, there is no charges against Hillary Clinton," Cotton explained. "Even though she has confessed that they falsified their campaign reports, they characterized as legal expenses, what was really dirty opposition research that produced the fake Steele dossier to try to swing the 2016 election," he added.

"That's just one reason or one example of how this is a political witch hunt. Another one is that you're going to have another hearing until December, Maria," Cotton said.

"I mean, it's early April, and this is a relatively straightforward, factually simple case. I think this is primarily about pushing these proceedings into our nominating season, then ultimately into the general election," Cotton speculated.

Clinton has never faced any consequences for what her campaign did that launched a years-long investigation and tarnished Trump's time in office. The government is instead focused on Trump's team perhaps putting an expense in the wrong accounting column.

Cotton is right that this has everything to do with the 2024 presidential election. Democrats want to distract Republicans and bog Trump down in legal issues because they're afraid he just might beat President Joe Biden.
