The Secret Service is playing a key role in Trump's indictment

According to Fox News, the U.S. Secret Service is the reason why former President Donald Trump, despite being indicted last week, is not surrendering to authorities until this week.

It was on Thursday that the news broke that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and the grand jury that he convened have decided to indict Trump.

That indictment remains sealed. And so, the charges that Trump will face remain unclear - as does the evidence that Bragg has to support the charges, that is, if such evidence exists.

Trump maintains his innocence and insists that Bragg is motivated politically. Trump, accordingly, plans to plead "not guilty" at the arraignment that will take place at a court in New York City on Tuesday.

After the news of the indictment broke, the big question that arose was about Trump's surrender. Bragg and his fellow Democrats, no doubt, would like nothing more than to have carried out an immediate arrest of Trump.

But, it did not happen. And, according to Fox, the U.S. Secret Service is the reason why it did not happen.

Fox reports:

The source told Fox News Digital that Bragg had requested Trump’s surrender to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office by Friday — the day after the indictment — but that timeline was extended due to arrangements needed to be made by Secret Service.

Part of the problem here, of course, is that none of this has ever happened before. And so, it is not the sort of thing that the U.S. Secret Service, which protects U.S. presidents for life, is used to dealing with.

It appears that, essentially, the U.S. Secret Service told Bragg that an immediate surrender of Trump is not happening, and Bragg simply had to accept this fact.

Trump, now, is expected to surrender this week, likely on Tuesday, the day when he is scheduled to be arraigned.

Trump and his legal team have reportedly made a deal with the Manhattan District Attorney's office such that Trump will not be placed in handcuffs when he does surrender.

That being said, it is still not exactly clear how this is all going to play out.

The U.S. Secret Service as well as the New York Police Department (NYPD) are expected to play a big role in securing the area of the New York City court where Trump will be arraigned.

After the arraignment, it is expected that Trump will return to his Florida residence.
