The Bud Light boycott continues to grow - in unexpected ways

Fox Business reports that the boycott of Anheuser-Busch products - including Bud Light - has now extended to some gay bars.

Per the outlet:

Anheuser-Busch products will no longer be served at some gay bars in Chicago in light of the beer giant's distancing from transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

From Anheuser-Busch's perspective, it's bad enough that the boycott was happening in the first place. But, now, this is even worse, as members of the community targeted by the Mulvaney advertising scheme are joining the boycott.

Fox reports:

2Bears Tavern Group, which owns four gay bars in the Windy City, called out Anheuser-Busch InBev's "abandonment of its support" of Dylan Mulvaney on Thursday. The organization will no longer serve Anheuser-Busch beverages at their bars, which includes Bud Light, Goose Island 312 and Busch Light.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, Dylan Mulvaney is an influencer who has gained notoriety for transitioning from a biological male to a transgender female.

Anheuser-Busch recently partnered with Mulvaney in a March Madness advertising scheme in which it sent Mulvaney a personalized pack of beer. It did so on the one-year anniversary of Mulvaney's "transition."

This has resulted in a massive backlash against Anheuser-Busch, which has lost at least $5 billion in market value as a result of boycotts - mainly boycotts from conservatives who disagree with the message that Anheuser-Busch tried to push by partnering with Mulvaney.

Anheuser-Busch has not done much to win these customers back. Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth did put out a statement in April claiming that the company "never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people."

But, Whitworth did not apologize and did not fire the executive(s) who made the decision. There is speculation that Whitworth didn't do either due to concerns that those who support the Mulvaney message would respond with a boycott of their own.

Then, just last week, AB InBev CEO Michel Doukeris told investors this: "We need to clarify the facts that this was one can, one influencer, one post, and not a campaign."

Additionally, Anheuser-Busch has severed ties with the third-party ad agency that helped with the Mulvaney partnership.

Now, 2Bears Tavern Group has responded with their boycott. The group released a statement, in part, saying:

Anheuser-Busch's decision to drop its support of Mulvaney in response to ignorant and hateful objections by some of its customers shows how little Anheuser-Busch cares about the LGBTQIA+ community, and in particular transgender people, who have been under unrelenting attack in this country.

The question now is whether this counter-boycott will grow.

If it does, this truly might just be the end of Bud Light.
