Texas law enforcement groups filed a lawsuit on Thursday against the Biden administration for stopping the arrests and deportations of illegal immigrants with criminal records.
According to The Blaze, the groups joined in the lawsuit include, “Five counties, five sheriff’s departments, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees with a national law enforcement organization signed onto the lawsuit filed with the federal court of the Southern District of Texas.”
Lead attorney Kris Kobach said, “The ICE officers involved in this case are absolutely astounded at what their superiors are asking them to do: Releasing people charged with rape of a child, releasing people charged with dealing drugs and resisting arrest.”
He added, “These are really serious criminals, and ICE is being ordered by the political leadership of the Biden administration to turn them loose.”
The lawsuit comes as both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have visited the border. President Joe Biden has yet to visit the nation’s southern border or announce plans to do so.
Under Biden’s immigration policies, Border Patrol agents have been limited regarding enforcement. This includes deportation of illegal immigrants with criminal records, pushing law enforcement to pursue legal means toward change.
Among the policies changed include the Biden administration reinstating the Obama era catch and release policy, as well as ending Trump’s remain in Mexico policy.
The case will serve as an interesting example of state law enforcement versus the federal government. Texas is working in creative ways to address illegal immigration, as the state sees Biden’s policies only hurting instead of helping.
