Texas Rep drops out of race after ‘ISIS bride’ affair revealed

Texas Republican Rep. Van Taylor said on Wednesday that he is suspending his campaign for re-election and confessed an affair he had last year with a woman dubbed the “ISIS bride.”

The announcement came one day after the Texas primary that left Taylor with 49% of the vote, forcing a runoff election for his district.

“On Sunday afternoon, two days before the primary, a rightwing website, National File, posted audio of that 35-minute interview full of salacious details about the nine-month affair. The next day, the conservative site Breitbart posted a similar story that it labeled ‘exclusive,'” the Dallas Morning News reported.

“Today I am announcing I will not continue my campaign to seek re-election to Congress,” Taylor shared in a letter.

“About a year ago, I made a horrible mistake that has caused deep hurt and pain among those I love most in this world. I had an affair, it was wrong, and it was the greatest failure of my life,” he added.

The sad end to Taylor’s campaign leaves his district up to the runoff battle to confirm its GOP candidate who will run in the November midterm.
