Texas is resuming U.S.-Mexico border wall construction

Fox News reports that the state of Texas is now prepared to resume the construction of a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

The purpose of the border wall, of course, is to slow down illegal immigration, which has been occurring at an astronomical rate ever since Joe Biden became president and overturned the immigration policies of former President Donald Trump.

Reports indicate that U.S. Border Patrol had over 2.3 million illegal alien encounters during the 2022 Fiscal year. This included several months that saw well in excess of 200,000 such encounters. And, things are not slowing down.

In fact, experts are predicting another surge in illegal immigration, with Title 42 coming to an end this week. Title 42 is the Trump-era emergency measure that the federal government has used to restrict the number of asylum seekers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the Biden administration refusing to secure the southern border, southern border states are taking matters into their own hands. This includes Texas.

Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott (R) just announced plans for his state to resume construction of the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

"More border wall is going up next month," Abbott tweeted. "It took months to negotiate with private property owners on the border for the right to build on their property. We now should be building more border wall all of next year."

Fox News reports:

The border wall construction project has been under development for months after the Texas Facilities Commission approved a $167 million contract with Southwest Valley Constructors Co. The project is intended to erect a nearly seven-mile border wall in the Del Rio area. A second contract was also inked with construction company BFBC of Texas to construct a separate seven-mile wall in the Rio Grande Valley.

Much progress was made on the construction of the wall during the Trump administration. But Biden put an end to that when he became president.

Another border state that is taking matters into its own hands is Arizona. It has filled in gaps in the U.S.-Mexico wall using shipping containers topped with razor wire.

Fox, separately, reports:

The construction consisted of 60 double-stacked shipping containers, welded shut and topped with four feet of razor wire. His office said that it is 22 feet tall and weighs nearly 9,000 lbs.

The Biden administration has responded by bringing a lawsuit against Arizona.

In the lawsuit, the Biden administration claimed that the makeshift wall "damage[s] federal lands, threaten[s] public safety, and impede[s] the ability of federal agencies and officials, including law enforcement personnel, to perform their official duties."

Whether or not the Biden administration wins the lawsuit may be irrelevant, as Katie Hobbs (D), the incoming governor of Arizona, has already vowed to stop the construction of the wall.
