Supreme Court rejects effort by states to block climate change metric

The Supreme Court has blocked an attempt from the leaders of conservative states to remove the use of a climate change metric that threatens to increase costs.

The court’s ruling opposed the effort by states hoping to avoid the additional costs of the Biden administration’s imposed social cost changes.

“The tool in question, known as the “social costs” of greenhouse gases, is a set of values that help the government calculate the climate costs or benefits of its actions,” The Hill reported.

“For example, the values may be used to help the government quantify the benefits of a regulation that prevents planet-warming carbon dioxide from being released into the air or the additional damage that could be caused by approving a project that emits a lot of it,” the report added.

The social cost of carbon will now move forward in a move that threatens to add more expenses in a time with 40-year high inflation and record gas prices.

The court was the last line of help in the effort, now leaving states to deal with yet another problem from the Biden administration.
