Supreme Court leaker might have taken advantage of lax security protocols

While little to nothing is known about the Supreme Court leaker who stunned the world by having the abortion reversal Dobbs decision draft opinion out to the public long before it was due to be read, there have been some recent clues.

At least from a "how" perspective, it appears that there are or was a lack of security protocols in the halls of the high court, and included what a source reportedly told CNN were "burn bags."

CNN Supreme Court Reporter Ariane de Vogue explained what she learned about the lack of proper protocols in the lead-up to the bombshell draft abortion decision leak.

Apparently, the situation in the high court was so bad that the actual investigation into the culprit of the leak might have also been compromised.

"Long before the leak of a draft opinion reversing Roe v. Wade, some Supreme Court justices often used personal email accounts for sensitive transmissions instead of secure servers set up to guard such information, among other security lapses not made public in the court’s report on the investigation last month," de Vogue said earlier this month.

She added: "New details revealed to CNN by multiple sources familiar with the court’s operations offer an even more detailed picture of yearslong lax internal procedures that could have endangered security, led to the leak, and hindered an investigation into the culprit."

One former employee reportedly said such procedures had gone on "for years."

De Vogue noted: "Supreme Court employees also used printers that didn’t produce logs – or were able to print sensitive documents off-site without tracking – and ‘burn bags’ meant to ensure the safe destruction of materials were left open and unattended in hallways."

The country was once again stunned when Chief Justice John Roberts revealed earlier this year that after interviewing 75 people and bringing the full weight of investigatory power, a culprit had not been identified.

Social media users reacted negatively to the news, especially the "burn bags" part, which seems so foolish in nature for one of the nation's most secure facilities that one would almost think it's a total joke.

"Chief Justice John Roberts releases statement regarding burn bags in the hallways of the Supreme Court. "There weren't any sensitive materials in the bags. Our spouses use them to shred rejected financial offers for access to the Court," one Twitter user wrote.

"Not secure-Supreme Court employees used printers that didn’t produce logs – or were able to print sensitive documents off-site without tracking – and ‘burn bags’ meant to ensure the safe destruction of materials were left open and unattended in hallways. Amazing laxity," another user wrote

Only time will tell if Americans ever hear the truth about the Supreme Court leaker. Many believe that much more is known about the culprit than what has been revealed, but without a way to confirm, America may never know the truth.
