State Department says its too dangerous for American diplomats to be in Ukraine ahead of invasion

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday that it is too dangerous for American diplomats to be in Ukraine at night, with workers crossing the border into Poland each evening.

“For security reasons, Department of State personnel currently in Lviv will spend the night in Poland,” Blinken said on Monday.

“Our personnel will regularly return to continue their diplomatic work in Ukraine and provide emergency consular services,” he added.

Despite the daily border crossing, Blinken said, “The United States’ commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s aggression is unwavering.”

The Secretary of State also noted, “Russian troops have continued to move closer to the Ukraine border in what looks like plans for an invasion at any moment,” according to a Reuters report.

The ongoing changes show the U.S. is very concerned about a looming attack on Ukraine that will endanger any Americans who do not leave the nation now.
