Spotify removes Neil Young’s music after complaint about Joe Rogan

Spotify removed Neil Young’s music from its platform on Wednesday after he told them to choose between him or controversial podcaster Joe Rogan.

Some songs from Young’s Warner Records label were removed on Wednesday after the company requested his content to be removed.

“We want all the world’s music and audio content to be available to Spotify users. With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators,” a Spotify spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal.

“We have detailed content policies in place and we’ve removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic,” the spokesperson added.

“We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon,” the statement said.

The move appears to have backfired for Young, as the more popular Rogan and other podcasters speaking out on controversial issues have won the battle over another attempt at cancel culture.
