South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem won’t change abortion laws over rape cases

South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem refused to back down during an interview that sought to find a compromise over child rape cases concerning abortion.

Noem faced the tough interview question during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Dana Bash on Sunday.

“I don’t believe a tragic situation should be perpetuated by another tragedy, and so there’s more that we’ve got to do to make sure that we really are living a life that says, ‘Every life is precious.’ Especially innocent lives that have been shattered like that 10-year-old girl,” she said.

South Dakota is one of 13 states with trigger laws banning most abortions following the Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v. Wade.

The interview was set up to make Noem and pro-life conservatives look bad over cases in which a minor becomes pregnant through rape.

However, the strong answer showed no backing down by the governor, known as one of the nation’s strongest pro-life defenders.
