Democratic politicians are prioritizing going after Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas instead of helping their constituents afford groceries, gas, and energy.

According to the Washington Examiner, one of those desperate Democrats is Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR).

Recently, Wyden penned a letter to Texas-based mega-donor Harlan Crow, asking him to reveal information concerning gifts he's given Justice Thomas.

The Oregon senator angled the letter in the sense that he questioned whether or not the gifts were in violation of federal tax laws.

"The secrecy surrounding your dealings with Justice Thomas is simply unacceptable," Wyden's letter read. "The American public deserves a full accounting of the full of extent of your largesse towards Justice Thomas, including whether these gifts complied with all relevant federal tax and ethics laws."

"I write seeking information related to reports of undisclosed gifts and payments for the personal benefit of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, including private real estate transactions and the complimentary use of your private jet and superyacht," Wyden wrote.

"This unprecedented arrangement between a wealthy benefactor and a Supreme Court justice raises serious concerns related to federal tax and ethics laws."

Wyden requested a response to the inquiry by May 8.

For his part, Crow responded in a short statement from his office. "We look forward to responding to Chairman Wyden’s letter in due course," it said.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) has also spent considerable time pressing ethics questions regarding the Supreme Court. He recently asked Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts if he would testify to the ongoing ethics issues with the high court.

"We’re waiting for the chief justice to answer my invitation. I think that’s the first step that ought to be taken with the Supreme Court itself, with its leader, the chief justice. Make it clear that they’re going to bring reform when it comes to the ethics to the court and spell out what they’re going to do," Durbin recently said.

Perhaps Democrats and Republicans could come together on dedicating all available resources to discovering the Supreme Court "leaker."
