Senator Lisa Murkowski says she will vote for a Democrat over Republican Sarah Palin

The Daily Wire reports that Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) will be voting for Mary Peltola, a Democrat "friend" of hers, over the Republican candidates, including Sarah Palin, in the race for Alaska's U.S. House of Representatives seat.

The question of whether she will support Peltola in the race was put to Murkowski on Friday by a reporter from the Anchorage Daily News.

"Yeah, I am," Murkowski said. She would later go on to explain, "Mary is a friend. … We have been friends for 25 years, and the fact that we're Republican and Democrat has never interfered with that friendship."

Murkowski did not explain why being "a friend" with an individual is a legitimate basis for voting for that individual.

One would think that the more relevant question is what Peltola will do for Alaska and for the country. The Daily Wire reports that Peltola "has campaigned on fighting climate change, strengthening Obamacare, supporting abortion rights, and pushing for the leftist LGBTQ Equality Act."

That's the opposite of what Republicans are looking for in a candidate. And, let's not forget that Murkowski is supposed to be a Republican - at least that's what she calls herself.

Breitbart News suggests that there is more to what meets the eye here - that Murkowski is actually voting for Peltola "to attract more votes down-ballot to ultimately defeat Trump-endorsed Senate Republican candidate Kelly Tshibaka."

Whatever the case may be, what we have here is a situation where Murkowski is openly supporting a Democrat, who supports the typical Democrat agenda, and Murkowski is doing so at a time when the country is in bad shape because of Democrat leadership and when Republicans are fighting to win back control of the House.

Murkowski is essentially undermining her own party, and, if Breitbart is right, she is doing so for self-preservation. Murkowski - who, let's not forget, has the support of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) - is okay with Republicans possibly losing the House so long as she maintains the Senate seat that she has held onto for decades.
