Sen. Rand Paul on the ‘farcical’ impeachment: If Trump is guilty, so is Schumer

In an interview on Fox News Sunday, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) attacked the partisan nature of the second impeachment of Donald Trump, reversing the whole scenario on Democrats.

Paul pointed out that if Trump is guilty of inciting violence, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is as well, and should also be impeached, citing Schumer’s shocking threats against the SCOTUS not even one year ago.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) attacked Trump-appointed Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh on the steps of the Supreme Court on March 3, 2020. Schumer was threatening and bullying the justices to influence how they ruled on an abortion-related case.

Paul recounted Schumer’s inflammatory behavior: “He went to the Supreme Court, stood in front of the Supreme Court and said specifically, ‘Hey Gorsuch, Hey Kavanaugh, you’ve unleashed a whirlwind. And you’re going to pay the price.”

At that time, Chief Justice Roberts rebuked Schumer’s behavior and rhetoric in a statement which read in part: “Justices know that criticism comes with the territory, but threatening statements of this sort from the highest levels of government are not only inappropriate, they are dangerous.”

Additionally, Paul notes that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts’s refusal to preside over the trial due to the fact that Trump is not the sitting president proves that the impeachment is not Constitutional.

Paul said, “Justice Roberts said heck no, I’m not coming across the street because you’re not impeaching the president.”

Instead of Roberts, Democrat Senator Patrick Leahy will preside over the farcical impeachment. Leahy can hardly be impartial as he already voted to impeach former President Trump the first time around. Paul pointed this out in the interview: “This was a strong signal to all of us that this was going to be a partisan hearing with a Democrat in the chair, who’s already voted for impeachment.”

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) is increasingly becoming the voice of reason in the Senate. During the interview, Paul went after the Democrats “criminalizing ” speech. The Democrats accuse the former president of “inciting” a riot by telling his supporters to “go fight to have your voices heard.”

Paul drew out the implications of the criminalization of “go fight to have your voices heard”: “If we’re going to criminalize speech, and somehow impeach everybody who says, ‘Go fight to hear your voices heard,’ I mean really we ought to impeach Chuck Schumer then.
