Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s foremost infectious disease expert has been targeted by Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, who sent a criminal referral to Attorney General Merrick Garland concerning Fauci’s connections with China’s Wuhan lab.
“I write to urge the United States Department of Justice to open an investigation into testimony made to the United States Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions by Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, on May 11, 2021,” Paul wrote, according to the Washington Examiner on Wednesday.
Paul had previously told Fox News host Sean Hannity he would send the referral. “He’s lying about whether or not he funded gain-of-function research, and yes, he should be punished,” Paul said last week during Hannity program.
“We have scientists that were lined up by the dozens to say that the research he was funding was gain-of-function. He’s doing this because he has a self-interest to cover his tracks and to cover his connection to Wuhan lab,” Paul added.
“…this to me shows incredibly poor judgment not wisdom, poor judgment. There’s a possibility we are suffering from his poor judgment. This research still goes on in the United States, we should want to know if the NIH still funding this type of research” https://t.co/g0h34kBDNM

“Now does he deserve all the blame? No, there’s still some conjecture as to whether or not it came from the lab,” Paul continued. “But he’s lying about whether or not he funded gain-of-function research, and yes, he should be punished.”
In a tweet last week, Paul specifically showed Fauci work did fund the Wuhan Viorlogy Lab.
Yes, Dr. Fauci’s NIH did fund the Wuhan Virology Lab. Here’s the verbatim admission from their chief scientist Dr. Shi Zhengli. pic.twitter.com/wk5mzeLWHR

The controversy will certainly continue in the days ahead. However, it appears clear Fauci has more connection with Wuhan than previously disclosed, and Paul appears committed to letting Americans know.
