It’s not being heavily reported across the mainstream media, but Democrats took a noticeably rough beating in the 2020 election and that has already sparked public infighting with concern to where the party goes from here on an ideological level.
According to Breitbart, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) made an appearance on Fox News’ “Special Report” to make crystal clear that he’s against the more radical ideas of his party such as defunding the police, vowing to Fox News viewers that he’s committing to voting against those progressive policies, should Democrats win the U.S. Senate.
“I commit to you tonight, and I commit to all of your viewers and everyone else that’s watching, I want to allay those fears, I want to rest those fears for you right now. Because when they talk about, whether it be packing the courts or ending the filibuster, I will not vote to do that. I will not vote to pack the courts,” Manchin said.
Manchin went on to explain to Fox News host Bret Baier that he believes it’s unfortunate that all Democrats are being grouped together for supporting what Manchin called the “crazy stuff,” which was obviously a reference to the ultra-progressive ideas like the Green New Deal.
The West Virginia senator also slammed the idea of medicare for all — which has been a landmine issue for the more moderate side of the party. However, now that voters have made clear that they’re against the more progressive ideas of the Democrat party, it appears as if more of the moderates, like Manchin, are willing to finally take a stand.
“And when they talk about basically, Medicare for all, we can’t even pay for Medicare for some. It doesn’t make any sense at all,” Manchin said.
As Yahoo News reported, if the outcome of the upcoming Senate runoff election in Georgia end up splitting the upper chamber 50-50, Manchin could be a key figure — and perhaps the GOP’s only hope — of derailing ultra-progressive legislation that will undoubtedly make its way through Congress.
“I’m a proud moderate conservative Democrat. Maybe there’s not many of us left but I can tell you what this country wants is moderation,” Manchin said.
If Biden wins the White House and Democrats take over the Senate, America can only hope and pray that centrists like Manchin will hold true to their word.
