Secretary of State Antony Blinken's China visit "postponed" following spy balloon saga

Secretary of State Antony Blinken will not visit China as planned after the communist country's spy balloon was spotted above the U.S., Breitbart reported. An unnamed official told the media that the trip was "postponed" while President Joe Biden mulled whether to cancel it altogether.

"@SecBlinken was to have mtgs in Beijing next week in 1st such visit by top US diplomat in 5 years. But the presence of the balloon—which the Pentagon decided not to shoot down—led officials to decide that going now would send wrong signal," Jennifer Jacobs, senior White House correspondent for Bloomberg News, tweeted.

It was widely reported that Blinken was to have a personal sit-down with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping in Beijing on Sunday. He was also expected to meet with Wang Yi, a foreign policy official and Politburo official, as well as Qin Gang, former Chinese ambassador to the U.S.

Blinkin is already in the region after meeting with Jordanian king Abdullah II in the Middle Mast. A stop in Beijing would have come amid growing tensions between the communist nation and its adversaries.

The Chinese government previously confirmed that such a meeting would take place. However, as of Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning wouldn't comment on the potential visit during a press conference.

There are many festering problems that originate with China that Blinken was ostensibly expected to help smooth over. The communist nation supports Russia in the war against Ukraine in direct conflict with America's interests.

Ongoing human rights abuses from the Chinese Communist Party, particularly the genocide against the Uyghur population, also need to be addressed. However, the Biden administration has taken a soft stance against the nation, no doubt in part because of the suspected beneficial financial relationship with Biden personally.

As for the man sent to do that, Blinken has been happy to bow and scrape. He and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan took their lumps during a March 2021 meeting where Yang had the audacity to denigrate the U.S. for its "human rights" violations and racism.

The CCP was apparently so pleased with Blinken's deferential approach that the government sold cell phone covers and tote bags with Yang's quotes to commemorate the event. Of course, the secretary of state had spent his time in the private sector similarly currying favor with them.

He helped run WestExec, a consulting firm that helped Chinese funding make its way to universities in the U.S. Blinken's role was described as assisting the academic institutions to "continue to provide capability to and remain a trusted partner of the USG [U.S. government] while pursuing commercial activities in China."

Author Paul Schweizer wrote about the relationship in his bestseller "Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win" last year. "WestExec listed this as one of their services on their website—until shortly before Joe Biden accepted the nomination for the presidency at the Democratic National Convention in August 2020," he noted. "Then they mysteriously deleted it."

It's particularly unlikely Blinken was being sent to turn the screws on China considering the communist country got away with sending a spy balloon over U.S. airspace this week. Reports emerged Thursday that China had a "high-altitude surveillance balloon" flying overhead in Montana.

The state has several military installments and nuclear sites that could have been targeted, though the Chinese government claimed there was nothing to it. Biden allowed the balloon to cross the U.S. and refused to shoot it down until late Saturday afternoon, according to the Associated Press.

It's increasingly clear that the Biden administration has no intention of becoming tough on China. It will make little difference whether Blinken's trip is postponed or canceled outright -- China has already completed its mission to embarrass the president.
