Former President Donald Trump left office with the world in relative peace and stability. It’s only taken a year of President Joe Biden’s administration to embolden our enemies.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned of “massive consequences” if Russia invades Ukraine, Breitbart reported. Blinken made these remarks Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” amid growing tensions between the nations.
Host George Stephanopoulos asked about the implications of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s amassing of troops along the border. “He’s made it clear that he believes Russia and Ukraine are one people,” the host stated. “Do you think he’s already made the decision to take control of Ukraine?” Stephanopoulos asked.
“George, I don’t know if the decision’s been made, and it’s clear that we’ve offered him two paths forward,” Blinken replied. “One is through diplomacy and dialogue. The other is through deterrents and massive consequences for Russia if it renews its aggression against Ukraine,” he said.
“And we’re about to test the proposition of which path President Putin wants to take this week,” Blinken added. “We have important conversations that are taking place between us directly at NATO, at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. And the question really now is whether President Putin will take the path of diplomacy and dialogue or seek confrontation.”
When pressed further about the “massive consequences,” Blinken explained “economic, financial, and other consequences,” he said. Though Blinken didn’t speak about military intervention, he added “NATO almost certainly having to reinforce its positions on its eastern flank near Russia, as well as continuing to provide defensive assistance to Ukraine.”
Late last year, Russian troops began to amass along three sides of the border. This saber-rattling has the international community on edge as intelligence revealed that Russia plans on invading the nation sometime in the new year, the Washington Post reported.
Biden has made the world less safe simply by projecting weakness to our enemies. If he’s not careful, this situation in Ukraine could erupt into a full-fledged international incident — and he has absolutely no idea how to handle any of it.
