Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA) criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Friday, claiming she won’t “hold China accountable.”
The comments occurred during Scalise’s speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Kissimmee, Florida.
“Pelosi won’t do it,” Scalise said. “When we’re in the majority we will do it, and we will hold China accountable.
“They are covering for China right now,” Scalise noted regarding Pelosi and other Democrats regarding the origin of the coronavirus, according to Fox News.
“It’s a Soviet-style cover-up. We’re going to keep calling them out on it.”
The report also said a bill introduced by Sens. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Susan Collins (R-ME) would establish a commission to investigate. However, it is unclear whether the bill would receive enough support to move forward.
Until recently, most experts had criticized the view that COVID-19 originated in a Wuhan lab. Following the public release of thousands of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s emails, many have taken a different view.
The ongoing investigation remains important. America marked the deaths of more than 600,000 people from the virus, not including the vast number of people worldwide impacted by COVID-19.
