Russian troops pulling back from Ukraine’s capital

Russian troops have continued to pull back from the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv over the past 24 hours in a major move after more than a month of invasion.

Despite the massive change, those drawing back are only at about 20%, according to a USA Today report.

“Russian troops have continued to retreat from Kyiv in the last 24 hours, although the withdrawal remains at about 20% of the force Russian President Vladimir Putin sent to seize the Ukrainian capital, a senior Defense official said Thursday,” the report said.

“The Pentagon believes the Russians are pulling back to get resupplied, not to wind down the war, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to reveal intelligence assessments. As evidence, the official pointed to continued airstrikes and shelling of Kyiv by Russian troops,” it added.

Some reports have claimed there will be even more suffering ahead, noting that the goal to resupply could lead to more bloodshed in the war-torn nation.

The slowdown may be a temporary relief, but peace is far from certain as the two sides continue the conflict started by Russia to take over the former Soviet republic.
