Russia accuses U.S. of meddling in its war with Ukraine

Russia just accused the United States of being an active participant in its war with Ukraine, The Hill reports

The accusation was made on Saturday by Vyacheslav Volodin, the Russian State Duma Speaker. Volodin made the claim in a Telegram post.

There, Volodin said that the United State’s involvement in the war is “not only about the supply of weapons and equipment” to Ukraine. He said that it is also about the fact that American intelligence agencies provided assistance to the Ukrainian government.

“After the coup d’etat, foreign advisers and instructors are working in Ukraine,” Volodin wrote. “But today, Washington essentially coordinates and develops military operations, thereby directly participating in the hostilities against our country.”

The New York Times this week released a report revealing how U.S. intelligence has been providing Ukraine with information to help the country fight off the Russian invasion.

The Biden administration responded to the report on Thursday. Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby clarified that information was not provided to Ukraine on the specific location of “senior military leaders on the battlefield.”

“We do not provide intelligence on the location of senior military leaders on the battlefield or participate in the targeting decisions of the Ukrainian military,” Kirby said. “The Ukrainians have, quite frankly, a lot more information than we do.”

It certainly does seem to be a fine line that the Biden administration is trying to maintain here.

The administration has not responded to Volodin’s accusation.
