Ronny Jackson calls on President Biden to abandon re-election bid if he refuses to submit to a cognitive test

Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) has renewed calls for President Joe Biden to submit to a cognitive test or abandon his re-election bid, Breitbart reported. Jackson previously served as a White House physician to several presidents.

The Texas Republican has called for testing Biden's mental acuity in the past. His latest letter is making its way around the House of Representatives, where Republicans will have until Wednesday to sign on.

"We call on you to either resign immediately and renounce your bid for reelection or submit to a clinically validated cognitive screening assessment and make those results available to the public," Jackson wrote. The letter is addressed to the 80-year-old president.

"When you first announced your bid to run in the 2020 presidential election, questions and concerns were raised surrounding your cognitive abilities," Jackson continued. "Those concerns have only increased because your mental decline and forgetfulness have become more apparent since you were elected."

Biden recently announced his intention to run for re-election in 2024. If he's successful, he will be sworn in at the ripe old age of 82.

"The American people should have absolute confidence in their President and know that he or she can perform their duties as Head of State and Commander in Chief," Jackson's letter went on, according to Fox News. "Therefore, the American people deserve complete transparency on the mental capabilities of their highest elected leader."

An earlier letter Jackson penned in July 2022 received 50 signatures from his fellow lawmakers. The former White House physician wasn't the only one to suggest a testing requirement, however.

Republican presidential hopeful  Nikki Haley had proposed mandatory cognitive testing for all politicians over age 75 earlier this year. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre dismissed the idea as "attacks" on the president.

"You know, we’ve heard these types of attacks or remarks before. And, you know, if you go back to 2020, they said that the president couldn’t do it in 2020 and attacked him there, and he beat them," Jean-Pierre claimed.

"Maybe they’re forgetting the wins that this president has had over the last couple of years. But I’m happy to remind them anytime," Jean-Pierre added.

Still, Jean-Pierre's excuses can't make up for measurable differences between Biden and his predecessors. Biden seldom sits down for interviews with the media and has only imagined 33 interviews since taking office.

White House correspondent Mark Knoller noted that former President Donald Trump logged 147 interviews within the same time period. Former President Barack Obama submitted to 273 by this time, a number that dwarfs Biden, who was his former vice president.

A counter-claim from Biden's team is that this president has done more impromptu question-and-answer sessions with the media than Trump or Obama had. In one such off-the-cuff remark, Biden spilled the beans on his 2024 re-election bid before it was officially announced.

There's no hiding Biden's advanced age and mental decline. However, Democrats have no hope in any other candidate and will cling to Biden as long as they need to, even if that means making sure he never submits to a cognitive screening.
