Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) spoke out against the Biden administration’s immigration policy and has filed a lawsuit to stop its “reckless” policy of releasing criminal illegal immigrants into the US.
“This is a reckless policy that we are opposing here. Normally, when we’d have a criminal alien, convicted of a felony, they obviously served their sentence in Florida state prison,” DeSantis told Maria Bartiromo Sunday on Fox news.
“And prior to the Joe Biden administration, ICE would take control of them when they finish their sentence and remove the criminal alien and send them back to the home country,” DeSantis added.
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody said, “Until President Biden’s inauguration, presidents of both parties detained and deported criminals. This is a radical shift that places Floridians and our law enforcement officers in greater danger, and that is why I filed suit.”
DeSantis is not the first to file a lawsuit over the Biden administration’s new immigration policies. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) moved to stop President Joe Biden from allowing a 100-day moratorium on deportations in January.
Abbott’s lawsuit focused on Biden’s deportation executive action. He claimed it violated an agreement signed during the Trump administration that required the federal government to run changes to immigration enforcement past the state first.
Arizona also recently filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration related to immigration. Arizona’s attorney general argues the administration’s immigration policies are in violation of the National Environmental Protection Act, as illegal immigrants keep littering as they cross the border.
The controversies between conservative states and the Biden administration over immigration will certainly continue as the numbers of illegal immigration rise and the Biden administration has done little to stop those illegally entering the nation.
