It’s bad enough when regular folks believe they have the right to tell other people what to do about their health. It’s more obnoxious when celebrities pontificate from on high.
Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera expressed support for severe restrictions for those who refuse the COVID-19 vaccine, the Daily Caller reported. While he conceded people have a “right” to turn it down, he believed his “right to protect” the health of his children trumped it.
Rivera was responding to a New York Post article published Monday about the trouble New York City is having convincing nursing home workers to take the shot. The workers in nursing homes are not compelled, nor are they easily convinced — a problem that Rivera has a solution for.
“‘Nearly 1/3 of nursing home workers in NYS have not been vaccinated.’ Says the NYPost. ‘Absolutely insane’ says a local assemblyman. Agree with him,” Rivera said in a tweet Tuesday.
“No Vaccine, no work, no school, no in-person shopping. You have a right not to be vaccinated. I have the right to protect my kids,” he claimed.

While only a third of nursing home workers statewide have been vaccinated, the lowest rate is in Brooklyn where only 58% of staff have received the jab. Meanwhile, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has required the COVID-19 vaccines for students entering public universities.
Rivera claimed the unvaccinated endanger his children to make his point and sell his idea to severely restrict freedoms for those who refuse the inculcation. However, most of the people that succumb to the disease are older adults with pre-existing conditions — not folks ranging from teenagers to around 40 like his own children.
This single-minded obsession to get the needle into everyone mirrors the zeal of the Biden administration which has promised to go door-to-door to seek out the unvaccinated and convince them otherwise. Rivera has now joined the chorus of those who bully, shame or attempt to exclude people who want to make their own health decisions.
