Speculation of the potential indictment of former President Donald Trump this week is running rampant, and a growing number of prominent Republicans are speaking out.
According to the Daily Caller, high-profile Republicans, including presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, slammed Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg over the possibility of Trump's indictment due to what many legal experts believe to be a flimsy case, at best.
Republicans, Trump, and many of his supporters believe Bragg's case, which involves alleged secret payments by Trump to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Trump has denied that he ever made such a payment.
"A Trump indictment would be a national disaster. It is un-American for the ruling party to use police power to arrest its political rivals. If a Republican prosecutor in 2004 had used a campaign finance technicality to arrest then-candidate John Kerry while Bush & Cheney were in power, liberals would have cried foul - and rightly so," Ramaswamy tweeted Saturday.
He added: "Principles go beyond partisanship. Let the American people decide who governs. This will mark a dark moment in American history and will undermine public trust in our electoral system itself. I call on the Manhattan District Attorney to reconsider this action and to put aside partisan politics in service of preserving our Constitutional republic."
Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (CA) weighed in on the developing situation.
"Here we go again — an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump," McCarthy tweeted Saturday.
The speaker added, "I’m directing relevant committees to immediately investigate if federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions."

The former president has published several updates on his Truth Social platform not only slamming Bragg for the investigation but to call on his supporters to protest if he's indicted.

Even former Vice President Mike Pence ripped the Manhattan DA's office for going after the former president. Pence also said he supports peaceful protests.
"The American people have a constitutional right to peacefully assemble,” Pence said, adding, "The frustration the American people feel about what they sense is a two-tiered justice system in this country, I think is well founded. But I believe that people understand that if they give voice to this – if this occurs on Tuesday, that they need to do so peaceful and in a lawful manner."
Law enforcement in New York City has reportedly ramped up operations in anticipation of potential protests.
