GOP Senators band together to thwart Pelosi and Schumer’s impeachment push

In a vote of 45-55 on an objection to the impending impeachment trial, GOP Senators sent a strong message to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) that Trump is unlikely to be convicted in an impeachment trial.

All but five of the Republican senators objected to the trial as unconstitutional. A two-thirds Senate majority is needed to convict the president — all but guaranteeing that Pelosi’s impeachment push will be a waste of time.

Surprisingly, former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) — after signaling that he would welcome an impeachment trial — joined 44 other Republican senators voting against the unconstitutional impeachment. He confirmed that he would listen to the evidence presented at the trial scheduled to begin on February 8th.

Pelosi sent the single article of impeachment to the Senate on Monday. The article charges that President Trump incited insurrection on January 6th, 2021.

Republicans and Constitutional scholars are objecting because impeachment is meant to remove an official from office. President Trump is now a private citizen making removal impossible.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts is will not be presiding over the trial because his presence is only required when a president is being impeached. Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), the president pro tempore of the Senate, will preside instead of Roberts.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) forced the vote on the objection on Tuesday arguing that the impeachment trial is unconstitutional. The objection failed to win, but senators’ votes are now entered into the Congressional record. Rand declared the impeachment trial as DOA and explained his strategy in a tweet:

The Senate just voted on my constitutional point of order. 45 Senators agreed that this sham of a ‘trial’ is unconstitutional. That is more than will be needed to acquit and to eventually end this partisan impeachment process. This ‘trial’ is dead on arrival in the Senate.

GOP Sen. Ron Johnson, one of eleven senators that objected to the electoral votes on January 6th in the joint session of Congress to certify the electoral votes, pointed out the double bind the Democrats created for themselves with impeachment because of their vindictiveness. He tweeted:

Democrats can’t have it both ways: an unconstitutional impeachment trial & Senate confirmation of the Biden admin’s national security team. They need to choose between being vindictive or staffing the administration to keep the nation safe. What will it be: revenge or security?”

  3. What a waste of tax payers money on another shame. Lets concentrate on getting covid under control and getting people back to work. Then getting our country back to wear we our not dependent on other countries for many basic items we need. Why does it seem that Pelosi is hell bent on causing so much dissention in our country.

  4. I don’t understand why former President Trump won’t release the evidence he has about seeing votes changed from Tump to Biden in real time? None of the courts are willing to give a hearing to uncover the truth. If Trump wanted to stay in office, why wasn’t the incriminating evidence released? We’re only told “everything will come out.” Now is the time to publicize it!!

    1. I am wondering the same thing. What I think is that cyber manipulation is hard to prove and since the courts have no idea of how hackers broke into the internet and were able to change votes they refused to hear the case of fraud. Judges and courts have not the slightest clue how skillful and competent computer hackers can be. In addition to all the other forms of fraud the cyber manipulation was the key to overthrowing the election. US Cyber Command (Military) exists to fight foreign intrusions but could be useful in demonstrating how the cyber manipulation of moving votes was accomplished. Maybe Rudi and Sidney Powell will write a book on how to steal an election. See also Peter Navarro’s 32 page article “Immaculate Deception” about how the six various states conducted the fraud to throw the election.

  5. Make that lousy once again full of lies impeachment blow up in Pelosi’s and Schumer’s faces!!!! Maybe this will finally be the start of their much needed and much deserved downfall!!!

  6. I don’t understand why President Trump doesn’t take all his witnesses and those who signed affadivits and gave him videos and sworn statements along with Rudi and the Computer genuis and head straight for a tv station and go on the air live with it all .. Then let the demented Democraps say there was a fair and legal election and that President Trump has no proof and let them all burn!!!!
