President Joe Biden has tried to quash news about his son Hunter Biden’s checkered and possibly criminal past. However, a GOP takeover of Congress could make that impossible.
Republican lawmakers are calling on the Department of Justice to disclose information related to the investigation into Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings, the Washington Examiner reported. Hunter Biden allegedly has raked in millions from schemes in China, Russia, and Ukraine that may have also involved his father.
The investigation into Hunter Biden will likely ramp up should Republicans win back the House of Representatives in November. In the meantime, the administration has been hush-hush about what the probe has uncovered.
Now a group of Republican lawmakers has called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to release data about the investigation since “little detail” has been made public. “Congress has a constitutional obligation to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch and a moral obligation to examine if the President of the United States or any senior official in his administration is ethically compromised or injured,” the letter from more than a dozen GOP lawmakers said.
The president claims to be “100% certain” that Hunter Biden will be found innocent. However, Rep. Ted Budd, North Carolina Republican and U.S. Senate hopeful, believes Hunter Biden is guilty and that Joe Biden may also be “compromised.”
“We’ve known there’s corruption, we’ve known that Hunter Biden is compromised, and we need to look into the length between Hunter Biden and his father, Joe Biden, to see if there are — and we think there are major compromisers that perhaps could weaken the U.S.,” Budd said on Fox Business News Monday. He also urged the DOJ to share what information they’ve gleaned with lawmakers.
“I think they need to brief Congress. We need to know what they’re doing — I mean, if there’s anything that would overlap with the grand jury, of course, they need to let us know if there needs to be a firewall. But of course, they need to expose the fact that they are investigating because they’ve been foot-dragging for quite a while,” Budd said.
It’s been relatively easy for the president to shield his son, thanks to his political power and allies in the media. However, Republicans are ready to change that as soon as they get the opportunity.
