Representative Andrew Clyde reintroduces legislation blocking Joe Biden's executive orders protecting abortion

Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) reintroduced legislation Friday that would block President Joe Biden's executive orders protecting abortion rights, Breitbart reported. The Georgia Republican was joined by 88 others in the House of Representatives in the effort days before the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.

The legislation, called the Protect the UNBORN (Undo the Negligent Biden Orders Right Now) Act, was previously introduced during the previous congressional term. With a newly-minted GOP majority in the House, the bill is likely to pass.

Clyde shared the news in an exclusive to Breitbart News on the day of the March for Life in Washington, D.C. "As tens of thousands of proud pro-life Americans attend the March for Life in our nation’s capital today, I’m proud to stand for the sanctity of life by reintroducing legislation to block and defund President Biden’s pro-abortion executive orders," Clyde said in a written statement to the news outlet.

The yearly event is held to protest the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide. The march used to end at the Supreme Court but now culminates at a visit to the Capitol to petition lawmakers.

The change in venue came after the Supreme Court overturned Roe in the Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision on June 24. With the issue no longer protected by legal precedent, abortion became the domain of state legislatures.

However, Biden sprang into action after the decision to in an attempt use the federal government to preserve the right to kill unborn babies. He sprang into action with executive orders for the Departments of Health and Human Services and the Justice Department to block restrictions on abortions and abortion access.

"At every turn, the Biden Administration has advanced the evils of abortion — subverting the will of the American people, circumventing the Constitution, and undermining the integrity of our nation’s highest court," Clyde went on in his statement. "Congress must take action to protect the precious unborn and prevent taxpayer dollars from funding the Left’s abhorrent abortion agenda," Clyde added.

The GOP legislation was lauded by other pro-life groups such as Family Research Council, Catholic Vote, and Heritage Action. The focus of the pro-life movement has shifted in response to Dobbs.

Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life Defense and Education Fund Jeanne Mancini, noted the difference during scripted remarks at the event Friday. "The world changed when on June 24, the SCOTUS issued the Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision allowing the people, through their elected officials at the state and federal level, to impact pro-life law," she said.

"So many pro-life giants paved the way for this momentous victory," Mancini said. "While this year marks our most significant victory, the human rights abuse of abortion is far from over, sadly," she later added.

"This year in the U.S. we expect well over 700,000 abortions," Mancini also pointed out in her remarks. "And so, we continue to march until the human rights abuse of abortion is a thing of the past, until the tragedy of abortion becomes unthinkable!"

March for Life attendee Ann Scheidler, whose late husband Joseph was instrumental in creating the pro-life movement, believes that the event will change in the coming years, the Washington Post reported. "The national March For Life has launched a lot of marches around the country because they know the focus will move to the states," she told the Post.

"I think there is definitely something to us gathering annually in Washington, but I don’t know after this year — we’ll have to wait and see," Sheidler said. "It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to go somewhere in January where the weather is bad."

The future of abortion in America is uncertain, but it's moving in the right direction. If Clyde and others in the GOP are successful, the March for Life and the whole movement will be obsolete -- and everyone within it would be just fine with that.
