House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly funneled $300,000 to support former attorney general Eric Holder’s plan for new electoral maps favoring Democrats according to a new report.
Despite Pelosi’s calls to end gerrymandering, her PAC to the Future has pressed for exactly the opposite. Changed only once per decade, the redistricting of congressional districts across California will play a pivotal role in the 2022 midterm elections.
Further, her husband Paul Pelosi directs finances for the PAC. The PAC to the Future is the only group to donate toward Holder’s group in two years.
The move clearly appears at odds with Pelosi’s public statement on the issue. For example, she stated in 2019, “We will continue to fight partisan gerrymandering, ensure every citizen’s vote counts.”
Pelosi is not the only major donor to Holder’s group, however. A six-figure donation from Democracy PAC, connected to billionaire leftist George Soros, has also been noted.
These efforts serve as part of a larger coordinated effort by Democrats called the National Democratic Redistricting Committee. With connections reaching back to former President Barack Obama, the committee has long worked to successfully renegotiate congressional districts toward the favor of Democrat candidates.
However, the coordinating of congressional district changes has been strained due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The census count used to determine redistricting has been delayed, leaving candidates running for midterm elections without knowing the boundaries of the new district maps.
A Politico report notes both parties are “essentially flying blind” as they approach the upcoming elections. This redistricting issue will certainly serve as a major controversy as Democrats seek to lead in the House and Senate despite conservative opposition.
Regardless of the outcome, one thing is clear: conservatives aren’t buying what Pelosi is selling. She may argue against partisan gerrymandering, but she’s one of the top candidates involved in it.
