Report: ‘Livid’ Whoopi Goldberg threatening to quit ABC’s ‘The View’ over 2-week suspension

Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of ABC’s The View, set off a firestorm by making incendiary statements about the Holocaust, and in the wake of the network’s decision to suspend her for two weeks, reports now suggest that she is considering leaving the program altogether in protest, according to the New York Post.

The controversy began when Goldberg, 66, opined that the slaughter of six million Jews was not about race, but a manifestation of “man’s inhumanity to man” and noted “[t]his is white people doing it to white people, so y’all going to fight amongst yourselves.”

Not surprisingly, Goldberg’s commentary drew shock and outrage from all corners, with Anti-Defamation League leader Jonathan Greenblatt tweeting, “No Whoopi Goldberg, the Holocaust was about the Nazis’ systematic annihilation of the Jewish people – who they deemed to be an inferior race.”

Kim Godwin, president of ABC News, ultimately declared that Goldberg would be subject to a two-week suspension from her role on The View over what she described as “her wrong and hurtful comments,” as USA Today reported.

“While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments,” Godwin said, adding, “[t]he entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family, and communities.”

According to the Post, Godwin’s actions have left Goldberg feeling “livid” as well as “humiliated,” particularly given the fact that she has attempted to publicly express contrition for her statements in recent days.

One insider reportedly told the Post that Goldberg “feels ABC executives mishandled this. She followed their playbook. She went on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and then apologized again on The View the next day.

The Post‘s source further noted that even though Goldberg is furious about the situation and claiming that she may walk away from the program altogether, those on the inside think she is simply blowing off steam.

Despite Goldberg’s history of hyperbolic attacks on conservatives and enthusiasm when they fall victim to cancel culture, Fox News personality Sean Hannity still came to her defense on Tuesday by slamming calls for her firing and aptly observing, “[h]ere’s the great thing about living in a free country. If you don’t like what Whoopi Goldberg said, guess what? Change the channel.”
