Recent polls indicate that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has lost the confidence of most senior staffers on Capitol Hill in terms of both her ability to pass her far-left agenda and to retain her majority in 2022, with many predicting the imminent collapse of her momentum, as Breitbart reports.
On Thursday, a tracking poll was released by Punchbowl News indicating that a majority of top congressional aides are of the opinion that Pelosi’s progressive legislative priorities are already doomed and that she will be unable to muster sufficient support to get them through. The survey was conducted between April 13 and 19 and included 171 senior D.C. aides who answered anonymously.
For instance, a meager 36% of Democrat staffers on the Hill think that party’s bill to reduce drug costs, known as H.R. 3, has much chance of success. Though Pelosi has said that the legislation would “level the playing field for American patients and taxpayers, others suggest that in order to achieve short-term price reductions, there would be a devastating ripple effect on innovation, likely hindering the ability for new drugs to come to market.
A startlingly low 5% of Democrat aides believe that a ban an assault weapons pushed by the party will attract enough support to pass, and just a quarter of those polled have confidence in the passage of the H.R. 8 background check proposal, putting a serious dent in the left’s ambitions to curtail the Second Amendment rights of citizens while they still hold on to the slimmest of electoral advantages.
The tracking survey from Punchbowl News also revealed that fully 66% of the aides questioned believe that the GOP is on track to reclaim the House majority and bring an end to Pelosi’s hopes of forcing her radical wish list through Congress, a number that encompasses 36% of those who Democrat-affiliated.
This news comes as the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) broadened its list of congressional seats deemed competitive in the 2022 midterms, with a total of 57 House districts now believed vulnerable to being flipped by the GOP.
Past leaders of the left’s counterpart body – the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee – have recently voiced their concern about their party’s prospects in the coming cycle, with prior chairwoman and key Pelosi backer Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL) recently announcing that she does not plan to run for reelection, as Breitbart separately noted.
The results of the survey can be seen as a harbinger of doom for Democrats, with Punchbowl News explaining, “Members of Congress are the ones with the election certificates, but, in many cases, their aides hold outsized power. Senior staffers are the gatekeepers, and, in many cases, the decision-makers.”
While the next battle for control of Congress is still in its early stages, conservatives can at least take heart in the fact that a significant number of those in the know already see little hope for the far-left initiatives and electoral aspirations of Pelosi and her loyalists.
