Leftists want to run every aspect of Americans’ lives. As if COVID-19 lockdowns weren’t proof enough, President Joe Biden’s showerhead rule demonstrates their desire to reach government tentacles into everyday life.
Biden is about to set limits for how much water is legally allowed to come out of a showerhead, The Hill reported. Former President Donald Trump had earlier relaxed such ridiculous rules that encroach on personal freedom, but Biden wants to restore them.
The shower is a place where the government shouldn’t even have a say, but did so thanks to the 2013 Energy Department redefinition of what constitutes a showerhead. According to the rule, configurations containing multiple showerheads would be subject to the 2.5 gallon per minute restriction on the setup as a whole instead of each individual head.
Trump circumvented the requirement by changing the definition of a showerhead to reflect each one as an individual. Now the Biden administration wants that reversed to its previous definition to effectively limit how much water Americans can use to scrub their bodies.
The rationale was that it would save on water and energy costs, placating the radical environmental left. However, what it actually accomplishes is an instruction on the left’s authoritarian bent and also has practical concerns.
“Showerheads — you take a shower, the water doesn’t come out,” Trump said during an event last year. “You want to wash your hands, the water doesn’t come out. So what do you do? You just stand there longer or you take a shower longer? Because my hair — I don’t know about you, but it has to be perfect. Perfect,” the former president said.
In striving to undo Trump’s legacy on everything else, Biden and his administration are eyeing other so-called efficiency standards Trump had relaxed. Instead, the biggest impact will be how many freedoms the left will also be rolling back.
It sounds like a small matter, but limiting how much water comes out of a showerhead points to the left’s desire to control everything in American life. Local building codes with such requirements are reasonable, but a federal restriction is a clear government overreach — and that’s exactly what the left is after.
