A leaked report has revealed President Joe Biden talking by phone with then-Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to change the “perception” of the Taliban gaining power in Afghanistan — a humiliating revelation considering the lives at stake in the disastrous withdrawal.
“We are facing a full-scale invasion, composed of Taliban, full Pakistani planning and logistical support, and at least 10-15,000 international terrorists,” Ghani reportedly said during the July call, according to Reuters.
Somebody leaked the transcript of Biden’s 23 July call with the Afghan President:
Biden: “…Things are not going well in terms of the fight against the Taliban, and there is a need, WHETHER IT IS TRUE OR NOT, to project a different picture.” https://t.co/ulmpsvvA3g

“And there is a need, whether it is true or not, there is a need to project a different picture,” Biden told Ghani.
“That will change perception, and that will change an awful lot I think,” Biden added.
The report also noted a second call in which National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and other U.S. military leaders also discussed the need to change the perception of the war in Afghanistan.
The calls also revealed Biden and other leaders were well aware of the Taliban takeover before announcing decisions to remove U.S. troops.
Biden’s discussion revealed much more was know about the Taliban’s rise to power than publicly stated. The information adds to anger among many Americans upset over leaving Americans behind in Afghanistan and the bombing deaths of 13 U.S. military personnel.
